It’s time to move to one of the highest ranked universities in the nation! With nearly 15,000 students, Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina and occupies nearly 8,600 acres on three campuses. Duke is a private research university that was founded in 1838, its motto being “Eruditio et Religio” or “Knowledge and Faith.” Before starting your move, brush up on these tips!
On Campus
Duke University is divided into four areas: West, East and Central Campuses, as well as the Medical Center. Worried about getting around? Don’t be. There is a free bus service that transports students between all four areas.
Housing is available at each of the three campuses. First-year students are assigned to the East Campus, where there are 14 co-ed houses. Don’t be intimidated by the experienced upperclassmen, because you’ll be rooming exclusively with freshmen! After your first year, you will move to one of 80 houses on either the West or Central Campus. The West Campus is a residence hall-style, while the Central Campus is an apartment style.
Duke University provides weekend entertainment through the Devils After Dark program. Expect events such as themed nights, performances and recreational activities. Look in your residence hall lobby for event listings or check your school email for updates!
