Spring Cleaning: Storing Winter Items

Feb 24, 2016

Storing your winter items can seem like a hassle but with some guidance, you can complete your spring cleaning in no time! It’s that time of the year again when everyone comes out of hibernation to once again enjoy the nice weather. If you live in a state where snow annually visits you, you’re probably jumping at the chance to send your snow gear packing as you see those rays of sunlight just beyond the horizon. If you don’t live somewhere with annual snow and freezing temps, you’ll still be jumping for joy over warmer weather. With that being said, store your winter items and take out those bikes, kayaks, and grills that have been so patiently waiting to be taken out of storage for the past four months.

Storing Winter Items

Gone are the days of having to use the heater and bundle up in hats, sweaters, and jackets. Every time spring rolls around it sparks hope of a new beginning. With this productive energy flowing through you, now is the perfect time to swap out your spring and summer items in storage with your winter items. Here are some helpful tips to ease the process of storing your winter items!

Move Winter and Holiday Items into Storage

First, you need to pack all of your holiday decorations, winter tools, and sporting equipment. Make sure to get the right size boxes and packing supplies for your items. Packing supplies like packaging tape, bubble wrap and packing peanuts will help keep your items safe and secure while in storage. Here is a list of suggested winter items that can be put into your storage unit:

  • Winter clothes
  • Winter sports equipment- skis, snowboards, sleds
  • Snowblower and other winter tools
  • Outdoor holiday decorations
  • Winter blankets

Taking Out All of Your Spring Items

Make a list of everything you want to get out of storage. You want those bikes for when you’re feeling adventurous and want the wind blowing through your hair. The grill–who doesn’t like a good steak? Am I right? Skates, kayaks, golf clubs and patio furniture are some other items that can also be brought out of storage. All these bulky items can be difficult to transport. While looking at your list you might stop and think, “How will I get all this stuff to my house or apartment in one trip?” Here’s a list of things you’ll need to help you make the move easier.

Some other things you’ll want to pull from storage include your summertime clothing, outdoor decorations like wind chimes, garden flags, outdoor planters and summer sports gear.

If you need more space to transport your items, rent the right size trailer or truck that will best accommodate your needs.

While you’re spring cleaning and storing all your winter items away, don’t forget to have some fun! Turn on the music to keep the mood light and energized as you move your items.
