Thinking about moving to the city where the heat is on? Miami might be calling your name, but don’t move too quickly! Make moving to Miami easy by preparing accordingly and you will be hearing “Welcome to Miami” in no time:
Weather
Miami weather can be great, but you have to be prepared for it. No, it might not hit the crazy heat records of the southwest, but 90 degrees with 60% humidity will happen and it can be rough. Put aside the heat, the summer is also hurricane season. Hurricane season spans from June 1 through November 30. So you are probably best avoiding a summer move. Unfortunately not everyone chooses when they will move so if you have to move during the summer, be sure to check the weather report for the day. If you see rain in your future, you may want to bring along a tarp. Winters are mild and much drier than the summers, which will make moving much easier.
Neighborhoods
If you are single and ready to mingle you are probably thinking you want to live in South Beach. While this will be a fun and vibrant place to live, the words “you got to have cheese for the summer time piece on South Beach” have never been truer. It is one of the most expensive places to live in Miami. Still want the urban life, but don’t want the craziness of the beach? Try Brickell. This neighborhood still offers nightlife and fun, but is more of a city-life environment. If you are looking the best bang for your buck, head to Little Havana. The location is great as you are only minutes from some great nightlife and 2 major freeways. Rent prices are also much more affordable.
If you have a family, you may be looking for something a little more family friendly. You could always head north towards Fort Lauderdale which offers the same great weather and outdoor activities, without the stress of the city. If you want to stay near the hub, try Pinecrest. It is a great combination of good housing, schools and pleasant lifestyle.
Culture
Miami is known for being a melting pot of cultures. You will see a strong Latin influence, along with traces of others as well. Take the time to immerse yourself once you get settled in! You may learn that you love the unique and colorful atmosphere of Miami!
