Moving to Tampa this summer? Despite the affordability and light traffic, the hot summer days with frequent thunder storms in the “lightning capital of North America” can make moving in the summer a burden. Read these tips about moving to Tampa before you decide:
Moving Tips
Bring Bug Spray– With the heat and humidity, flies and cockroaches are very common in the summer. Before moving in, see if you need to spray the exterior of your home, and be sure to pack lots of bugs spray for unloading your moving truck.
Drink Lots of Water– With the temperatures averaging at 90 degrees during the summer months, adjusting to the heat can take some time. Bring lots of bottled water (and sun screen!) to help keep you cool and hydrated during your move. Learn more tips for moving in the summer here.
Extreme Weather
From mid-July to late October, hurricanes can affect the Tampa area. Though severe storms typically miss the area, Tampa experiences bad storms ever 5 years or so. Plan to move in other times of the year, and get good home owner insurance! Though this cost may add up, just remember: Florida doesn’t have a state income tax! Because of the high humidity, be sure to rent a climate-controlled storage unit to avoid damaging your items from heat and moisture.
Things To Do:
Whether you are moving with your family or by yourself, there is always something to do! For a fun day with the family, try visiting the Busch Gardens Theme Park. From rollercoasters to petting zoos, this place is fun for any age! If you are looking to try out the nightlife, visit Ybor City. Almost every weekend, the district turns into a mini-Mardi Gras party. During the summer months, you can go to the beach or even see a spring training game. With 3 major league sports teams, tickets to a game are easy to come by.
Another great thing about Tampa is that there are many places to visit within a 4-hour drive and there are 3 major airports in the surrounding area. This is great for professionals who frequently travel around the country.
