Moving to the University of Pennsylvania

Jan 10, 2014

Moving to UPennReady to head over to an Ivy League? Congratulations on being accepted to the University of Pennsylvania, or UPenn for short! It’s one of the original nine colonial colleges and its founder was Benjamin Franklin. Its rich history includes the first school of medicine and first school of business in the U.S. Located in Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love will be your new home.

Attending UPenn means you’ll be living in the “College Houses” which includes 11 residential halls from Kigns Court English to Fisher Hassenfeld hall. It sure would be nice to have an inside look at each and individual room and its amenities, and with the university’s updated annual “College Houses at the University of Pennsylvania” 32-page booklet you can get an inside look at dorms, services and activities.

Move In Day:

All students receive their housing assignment on June 4, and will know whether they’re supposed to move in on August 22 or August 23. With only two days to move in, you’ll face some some traffic issues Moving into UPenngetting to the campus and into your dorm. The best way to avoid this is to come prepared. You’ll need to reserve a temporary unloading permit for your moving truck and grab a couple of family passes to ensure that they’re allowed to go up to your room and help you settle in.If you’re looking for the nearest moving truck location, the U-Haul Moving and Storage of Philadelphia will be the closest for storage and rental needs; but, if you want to stray away from busy locations, try searching for others that aren’t around UPenn’s vicinity by clicking here.

Necessities vs. Wants:

No one wants to leave the comfort of their home and leave for college feeling unprepared. So when it comes to knowing what you’ll need in your dorm is essential, and UPenn created a list for students so that they know exactly what they’ll need for their room (light bulbs, twin extra-long sheet set), the bathroom (shower caddy, toilet paper), personal items (first aid kit, umbrella) and what you won’t need (TV, microwave, fridge). Want to know what your roommates and floormates will bring?

Ivy Shipping:

What better way than to start off your collegiate career right than by starting with move-in day. It’d be easier and smarter to ship your belongings and luggage straight from your family home to your new dorm room with Collegeboxes. You pack, they ship and when you make it to UPenn, Collegeboxes will have all of your boxes and Moving to UPennitems Moving into UPenn waiting at your door! Moving day doesn’t have to be a hassle, and CollegeBoxes has a specific page for UPenn students to make their moving even easier.

Once you’re on the move, have a little fun and snap some photos on the way! Submit them here or via Instagram using #uhaulfamous to become U-Haul Famous!
